The domestic situation in Honduras remains volatile tonight. It was a dramatic scene at the Toncontin Airport in Tegucigalpa yesterday as ousted President Manuel Zelaya tried to land at his country’s main airport but was blocked from doing so by the military. Thousands of pro-Zelaya protesters gathered at the airport and reports are that two were killed. The airport ahs also been closed for 48 hours to repair damages. Zelaya eventually had to land in Nicaragua where he met briefly with president Daniel Ortega and he then went unto el Salvador where other presidents and the secretary General of the OAS were meeting.

Honduras has been suspended from the OAS which opens that country to sanctions and punitive measures. But the Government of Roberto Micheletti – who took over in Zelaya’s absence – has not budged. Zelaya is set to meet with the US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton in Washington tomorrow.
