There was a violent collision in the King’s Park area this morning. It occurred at around 10:30 - at what residents say is the dangerous intersection between 1st and Hopkins Streets. 7News was on the scene where fortunately, no one was seriously hurt.
Keith Swift Reporting,
The scene was dramatic this morning at the corner of Hopkins and First Streets in King’s Park. This Mitsubishi Pajero – which was driven by Shawn Tewes – was in the drain in front of Funplex with its four wheels in the air and this Honda Accord driven by Ensworth Tzul was in the middle of the intersection with its bumper ripped off. Tewes, who had to be rushed to the hospital, was driving on First Street whilst Tzul was on Hopkins Street. Tzul, seen here with

police on the scene, spoke to 7News off camera – telling us that Tewes failed to adhere to this stop sign on First Street.
Ensworth Tzul, Driver of Honda Accord
“A stop sign is there and no stop sign is here so I have the right of way. I was coming slowing, just like how this car the come slow, and a noise was coming. So I eased up and I was expecting the driver to stop at the stop sign but he didn’t. He went straight across, knocking the car, and he ended up turning over.”
Keith Swift,
“Your point remains that you believe you had the right of way?”
Ensworth Tzul,
“Well he saw the stop sign and he is supposed to stop. He is supposed to stop so I was coming slow, expecting him to stop and he didn’t stop, he flew across the street.”
Nuri Zetina, who lives in the area, heard the impact and ran out to assist.
Nuri Zetina, Area Resident
“When I came out it was just the bang I heard and I saw the young man coming out and he looked like he was hurt or something. We called the ambulance

to come pick him up. The person came out spitting blood.”
Luckily no one died in today’s accident but it is the second accident in less than a month here at the corner of Hopkins and First Streets. And just as it was as in the case of the first accident, residents say today’s accident was caused by speeding.
Nuri Zetina,
“They need to get something done, the cars are speeding as if it is a highway they are driving. The guys they don’t respect the streets, the corner of the streets, looking to see if anybody on the street is walking or anything like that. The afternoon when you are taking the kids to school, you have to take your time walking because the cars are coming crazy and when they are on the main, they are just flying across like I don’t know what. I mean they need to slow down. We need to get speed bumps or something for the streets because it is terrible. As I said it has to be until somebody gets killed or something for this to get dealt with because this is the second accident in less than a month.”
Keith Swift,
“What do you think is the solution?”
Nuri Zetina,
“I want them to put two speed bumps, something to slow down the traffic.”
Both drivers have been served with notices of intended prosecution.
