We begin tonight with the stories of two murders which occurred on East Canal within yards and hours of each other. Our coverage begins at the corner of Dean Street and East Canal.
Keith Swift Reporting,
Winston Baja Jones was standing here at the corner of Dean Street and East Canal on Saturday night when he was ambushed by a gunman.
Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
"Mr. Jones was standing at the corner of East Canal and Dean Street by Fu Fu Shop waiting for service when a lone gunman standing in the alley way not too far from the shop opened fire on him, hitting him once in the left side of the chest and then in the right rib area."
Jones was taken to the hospital but he later died. He was shot just a few yards from his home on East Canal and just minutes after his brother Max Williams

Jr. saw him last alive.
Max Williams Jr., Brother of murder victim
"After 7 Saturday evening when the man took his daughter to her mother. Between 8:15 and 8:30 he came home back but he didn't stop at home, he stopped by Dean Street and that is the last time I saw him when he got out of his car. I don't know what happened after that."
Keith Swift,
"You heard the shots?"
Max Williams Jr.,
"Yes sir."
Keith Swift,
"How many shots you heard?"
Max Williams Jr.,
"I don't even know, it was a lot of shots. I don't know how many shots. It could have been more than one gunman."
Keith Swift,
"When did you realize it was your brother who had been shot?"
Max Williams Jr.,
"Well right after, a boy just told me that my brother got shot. I didn't really want to go up there."
Baja Jones has a criminal past but his brother Max Williams Jr. told us off camera he can't think of who would have wanted Baja Jones dead and more importantly – why.
Max Williams Jr.,
"He has his problems with the law but I don't want what went on him. He wasn't giving problems now, that is what I know. He was behaving himself and trying to live for his daughter. It is rough, rough, rough. Rough, that's all I could say."
Police believe a nine milimeter gun was the murder weapon.
