And while no one was injured in a fifth shooting over the weekend, it may have been the most shocking because it was a shootout between police and two suspects – Jeffrey Flowers and Germaine Belgrave who are both being sought tonight. The incident occurred around 9:30 on Friday night which is when Police Constable Harold Grinage was on mobile patrol in the Baghdad and Alexander Streets area. He says he observed two men walking towards Water Lane. He recognized one of the men as Germaine Belgrave and the other as Jeffrey Flowers. Constable Grinage says he exited the vehicle and approached them. He ordered them to stop but instead they ran towards water lane.
He says they later turned around and from a distance of about 20 feet, they each pulled out guns and opened fire on Constable Grinage. Grinage says he then pulled out his police issued 9 milimeter pistol and fired back. Flowers and Belgrave fled and Constable Grinage pursued. Flowers and Belgrave allegedly continued firing and eventually escaped in the West Street area. Both men are being sought tonight.
