On Friday night, the Anti Drug Unit made a major marijuana bust at the Burrell Boom junction Checkpoint. At about 8:30, 34 year old Corozal resident Lionel Tillett pulled up to the checkpoint in a Jeep Wagoneer. He was accompanied by his mother Joan Tillett, his sister Chrissie Tillett and Shane Morgan.

Police said they smelled the strong aroma of cannabis but when they searched the vehicle they didn't find anything. Still, they impounded it and took it to the Queen Street station where they found 32 parcels of marijuana stowed in a secret compartment under the bottom of the vehicle. The marijuana weighed in at 89.6 pounds.

With that - everyone was arrested - mother, sister, friend and driver. To get them free - Lionel Tillett would have to take a plea. In court today, he did - pleading guilty to drug trafficking. With that the charges against the others were dropped.

Chief Magistrate Margaret Mckenzie adjourned the sentencing until Wednesday so that an investigation can be conducted to determine whether Tillett benefitted from the drug trafficking.

He faces a possible sentence of 3 years and a fine of ten thousand dollars.
