Little more than six months after burying her 20 year old daughter, misfortune struck again for the family of Maria Kerr.
She is the mother of Stacey Kerr who died as a result of a freak accident last June. You may recall the story: Stacey a resident of Burrell Boom, fell from the railing of her bungalow home and was left paralyzed before she succumbed to her injuries 15 days after the fall. Well, yesterday around 6 P.M. the 10 year old daughter of Kerr was riding her bike not too far from their Burrell Boom home, when she was knocked down by a pickup truck driven by Morgan Baptist, a friend and neighbor of the Kerrs. Reports are that the child, Reanna Kerr was riding to her aunt on the other side of the road, when the pickup truck hit the back wheel of the bicycle, which flung Reanna onto the pavement.
Speaking to 7 News by telephone, her mother Maria Kerr said it was too painful to appear on camera to discuss this latest tragic incident in her life. Reanna's accident she said, "only brings back the painful memories of Stacey". Kerr says she is not concerned about placing blame for the incident, because at the moment she is solely concerned about her daughter's welfare and quick recovery. Late word out of the KHMH is that Reanna sustained trauma to the head or, what's called a Linear skull fracture; resulting in some swelling and bleeding of the brain along with minor abrasions to the upper torso.
She remains in a stable condition. Reanna is a student at St. Therese Roman Catholic school in Boom. The Kerr family was in the middle of preparing to bury the child's grandfather tomorrow. Police say they have since served Baptist with a Notice of Intention to Prosecute, the Kerr family though, has expressed it has no intentions of pressing charges against their neighbor.
