It was quite as a scene today in the residential West Landivar area as a trawling vessel was set on fire at the Moho Caye Landing. Monica Bodden was there:…

When we arrive at Moho Landing Caye boat dock behind west Landivar around 4 o' clock this evening this trawler boat was still smoking. A number of fire fighters were on the secene and manage to control the blaze. After the fire was extinguish there was nothiung mucj left of this boat that is belive to be valued at $75,000.00 the owner is Cleveland Davis. His friend who also dock his boat at tyhe same spot told us he stringky believe that Davis' boat was set in fire since Davis was at the dock earlier today on his boat.

Mr. Garbutt
"It was set on fire. I know it was set on fire, no battery is in that boat, nothing that could cause a fire is in that boat. The owner is a very humble person who woek with me for many years, he struggles, he just borrow a loan from DFC to get his boat together. I help him with everythuing I could on that boat, I get the starter and he just borrow $15,000.00 to get his boat together."

According to Garbutt this is not the first time boats that dock in the area have been sabotage.

Mr. Garbutt

"On my last two boats, they cut out all my wires from it. Mr. Brown lose a boig 8 inch pump so somebody is buying these things. we are living like hell behind here, we move from behind the port because of the high cost but we are not prospering behind here at all because everytime yiu get a job you have to go and buy everything over, you have to get mechanic, electrical man. Since I get at the back here I lose about $6,000.00 to $7,000.00 with battery, starter, three pumps, all my tools, spot lights, they even broke the lights off the top of the boat, just breal them off and take them. But I believe they sell the copper wires and things like that."

Observers believe the vessel was set on fire as others in the fleet have also been burned…
