The Supreme Court today handed down unprecedented sentences to two Dangriga men that were convicted of the crimes of carnal knowledge and rape.

42 year old Frederick Casimiro and 41 year old Fidel Williams received what could almost be termed life sentences, after Justice Troadio Gonzalez in the Southern District Supreme Court sentenced Casimiro to a total of 75 years in prison for 6 counts of carnal knowledge and 1 count of an unnatural crime.

In the case of Williams he sentenced him to 80 years for 10 counts of rape. The incidents of carnal knowledge involving Casimiro occurred between January 2007 and March 2008 in Dangriga. The complainant was 8 years old when it started. Casimiro testified and denied he committed the offences. He said the complainant fabricated the story.

The rape involving Williams occurred between March 2005 and November 2006 in Dangriga. The complainant was 21 when it began. Williams, who was represented by Attorney Lionel Welch, gave a statement from the dock in which he denied he committed the crime. The Director of Public Prosecution Cheryl Vidal represented the prosecution.
