Another fatal traffic accident over the weekend has claimed the life of a teenager from San Jose Succotz.
A little after 4:00 yesterday, 15 year old Alex Ramos is said to have been riding home after a sweltering afternoon on the Basketball court located between mile 72 and 73 on the Succotz road, when he was run over by a D & E passenger bus enroute to San Ignacio from Benque.
Reports are that the driver of the bus, 36 year old Roberto Galvez blew his horn to alert Ramos who was on his bicycle headed in the same direction.
Ramos is said to have swerved from left to right after hearing the horn of the oncoming bus, which resulted in the bus running over him. Ramos who was scheduled to take today's PSE exams, died on the spot. One village official told Seven News he's convinced that the cause of yesterday's fatal accident was the result of speeding. He says the stretch where the accident happened has been the scene of many similar accidents, albeit not as tragic as yesterday's. The village is said to have pleaded on more than one occasion with the government to place additional speed bumps, but their requests have gone un-heeded. Benque Police say the driver of the bus is being detained pending the outcome of the investigation.
