On Friday night at 7:55, a cargo truck heading from Belmopan to Orange Walk was shot up by gunmen who were waiting for it a speedbump. It happened a few miles outside of Orange Walk at a speed bump in Carmelita where there's no light. The men waited for the truck on the dark shoulder of the road and fired when the truck slowed down for the bump. Fortunately the driver saw what was happening and sped past the gunmen. His side man told the media that the driver told him to duck:...

Voice of: Passenger in Cargo Truck
"I just remember that the driver said to bring down our heads and I was thinking why, when I heard the gunshots pow, pow. Good thing the driver never got frightened and stop the truck or ease down. If he would have eased done, the shooters could have easily hang on the truck. I think that would have been the end to the 3 of us. The driver was frightened. I was frightened too, because I though a bullet had caught one of us, because he was yelling. We could only hear the shots. The first one rang my ear, then I couldn't hear anymore. We just do delivery. I don't know why they wanted to rob us because we dont bring any money."

The truck ended up with four bullett holes. The men say they believe the gunmen wanted to rob them after a day of deliveries but they don't carry cash.
