Gaspar Vega was also in the news Friday because he appeared at his first house meeting after missing 7 in a row. As his opponent in the last election, Cervantez said the people of Orange Walk North deserve better representation:..
Ramon "Monchi" Cervantez, PUP Std. Bearer - OW North
"The Prime Minister is looking bad that his team is not complete in the House of Representatives. His former deputy prime minister is not attending the meetings. That is a sign of disrespect, not only to the people of Orange Walk North, but also to his colleagues and to the Prime Minister himself. So I believe that in itself is what prodded him to go."
Jules Vasquez
"Should he then concede to a by-election if it can be argued he's not doing the job of a people's representative by going to the House of Representatives?"
Ramon "Monchi" Cervantez, PUP Std. Bearer - OW North
"I believe that is the honorable and decent thing to do. I think the decent thing to do is to resign and give the people a fair chance for them to elect someone else that the people believe will represent them adequately."
Jules Vasquez
"Are you still thinking of trying to force a by-election or a recall? Where are you with that?"
Ramon "Monchi" Cervantez, PUP Std. Bearer - OW North
"Yes, we are thinking about it and trying to garner resources and that is the challenging part right now - elections take resources, so it is still afoot. I cannot give any guarantee of anything or what stage we are on."
Jules Vasquez
"You and Mr. Briceno had a closer relationship. He is not known as a fan of yours and you are not known as a fan of his, that the resources will be made available, but Mr. Briceno, people suggest has no urgency to see you in the House of Representatives."
Ramon "Monchi" Cervantez, PUP Std. Bearer - OW North
"It was proven in the House, that Mr. Briceno is willing to work with everyone, inclusive me and I publicly thank him for standing up to my defense."
Political insiders say that it unlikely that that PUP would try to force a recall vote.
