And, in Punta Gorda, police are stitching together a case which may point to some type of serial pyromaniac. The third vehicle in 10 days was burned in PG this weekend. The Head of National Crimes Investigation told us more:..
ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"On Sunday morning sometime around 1am, Punta Gorda police were on patrol when they observed a Volkswagen Amarok that was parked beside Tim's Store. The inside was engulfed in flames. As a result the fire department was called where the fire was extinguished. During the inspection at the scene a plastic bottle with liquid was found. So far surveillance footages viewed have not been able to determined the identity of the person. The investigation has led us to believe that it was a case of arson. At this point in time we do not know if they are all connected. But we are following several leads and we are trying to see if we can determine the identity of this person who was involved in the last fire."

"Might it be that it is someone, some serial pyromaniac or someone who likes to burn cars."
ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB

"Well at this point in time we are trying to determine. We are trying to see if any evidence retrieved from the other scenes would be consistent with what was retrieved from this scene."

"What advice would you have for people in Punta Gorda, the public at large, which is now concern that they wonder of they will burn my vehicle next?"
ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"Certainly, the police have stepped up its patrolling efforts as well as other strategies and we want to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities that is seen in Punta Gorda. Any suspicious person walking the streets late at night - they could call the police, because obviously all these incidences have occured late in the night towards the morning."
Going back to last year, at least 5 vehicles have been torched in PG.
