As we told you on Friday, the UDP Candidate for Corozal Southwest, Minister of State Angel Campos, was injured after he was involved in a traffic accident. His vehicle collided with another car driven by Manuel Leiva at the BSI junction. Police say they have still not determined who may have caused the accident but both sides have been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
"What we know so far is that Mr. Campos was driving a white 4Runner from a north to south direction where he collided into a white Dodge Nitro that was driven by Mr. Leiva at the time. The vehicle Mr. Campos was driving received extensive damages. As a result, an investigation is being carried out and a notice of intended persecution have been served to both drivers whilst the investigation is still ongoing. No samples were taken by officers as both drivers seem to have been of a sober mind at that time of the day."
Reporter:
"Sir, how do you determine when a driver seems to be of sober mind?"
ACP Joseph Myvett
"That person was out walking and there are certain signs that are exhibited by a person. Also, the aroma of alcohol was not smelt on any of the drivers' breath."

Indications are that Campos did not have the right of way - but we'll keep pressing the police for a comment. We asked Campos to comment but he has not responded.
