The National Oversight Committee has agreed to recommend an election night curfew to Cabinet. The curfew as proposed would run from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am the next day, November 12th.
It's just one of a set of new COVID protocols that follows the current surge of COVID-19 cases.
And with 332 new cases and 6 deaths occurring over the past week the committee believes that it is now more critical than ever that Belizeans adhere to the legal and protective regulations: physical distancing; handwashing and mask-wearing; no gatherings of more than 10 persons; and a ban on all non-family, close-quarters interactions.
It's in this light that all requests made for the relaxation of the restrictions pertaining to clubs, bars, casinos, and street vending have been turned down. The Committee did, however, approve the protocols presented by the National Fitness Association (NAC) for the reopening of gyms but this will now take place on November 30th instead of the requested date of October 30th.
Finally, an agreement has been made to fast track private sector rapid testing, with an accompanying protocol for the contact tracing that would need to occur with private sector detection of positive cases.
