And it is one Belizean artist's hope that his new song can help quarantine violators to heed the advice of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Positive Vibez's new song titled, "Corona is Killing my Belizean People" speaks about the importance of following the regulations in place and gives a stark reminder of the loved ones we have already lost. Today, he stopped by our studio, to give us a preview with the hope that he can eventually turn it into a music video.
Positive Vibez - Belizean Artist "Avoid Social gathering, wash yuh hands sanitize, wear your mask properly. It's an awareness song that speaks about the current events that is happening throughout our country and not just our country but throughout the world and as a Belizean artist I believe it is our job to spread awareness through music. Some people don't get it when you talk to them but they get it when you sing to them so that's what I did. Currently it is on my Facebook page, Positive Vibez, I distributed it to all DJs and also to all medias as well but for me I want to do the video for this, not only a video but as a public announcement as well and I'm looking forward for collaborative efforts from all medias and the more we can play this and get this in the ears of Belizean people I believe that we do have a chance of them staying home and being vigilant about the situation. The song is basically speaking about the people that are dying, it mention about Hon David Vega who recently passed and condolences to his family, also the two doctors who passed and also saying to Dr Manzanero to get well, so it does have a lot of lyrics."
Kid Plays for Commonwealth
Belizean recorder player John Paul-Hales has been given the great honour of performing with London's Dionysus Ensemble. He's just 11-years-old but he's the only Belizean that's been selected to help lead the woodwind section as our representative in the United Commonwealth Music Project.
And this mass musical and cultural performance has been designed to ‘Uniting the Commonwealth through music during COVID-19.' The project is a never-before-attempted musical feat to combine the voices of 54 musicians from the 54 member countries in one powerful virtual performance.
And this afternoon from his safe and socially distant San Ignacio home John-Paul expressed his excitement at this chance to play in this inclusive and inter-generational musical project.
You can catch the performance on the Dionysus ensembles Facebook page tomorrow at 3:00 pm Belize time.
Dances With Fire
It looked like attempted arson at Amara Avenue's Terminal Deck Restaurant. It happened on December 12th when a man who appeared to be homeless allegedly set a fire in a garbage bin that's attached to the 3-in-one restaurant, barber shop, and Ice point location - which is made of wood.
It could have been a devastating blow to the Ahmad family, the same family whose son and brother, Fareed, was fatally shot, allegedly by a WPC.
And while the fire was put out quickly by a police mobile seen here in the restaurant's security footage, it's what happened later that's leading to questions about possible disciplinary action. It seems that after the flames were extinguished the arsonist returned to the scene and this time he was allegedly met by another set of officers who recorded him dancing as though it was viral Tik Tok material
