We've been reporting on a steady stream of wholesale volumes of weed coming from the north for months - and while traditional traffickers are caught often enough - it seems government workers - the one who always slide by checkpoints - are also being used as mules.

So far this year, we've seen Immigration Department personnel, a postman, and now a cop - all trying to transport weed from the north towards Belize City.

Tonight, that allegation is against 35-year-old Police Constable, Dion Danielo Bellini from the Maya Mopan area of Belmopan.

Today at 12:45, he was in the parking lot at Westrac in Orange Walk - where police found him under his Jeep Cherokee.

The MIT operation team had intelligence and searched inside where they found two suitcases stuffed with weed. In total there were 33 parcels between the bags and rear cargo section of the vehicle. All totalled, it weighed 40 pounds.

Bellini was charged for "Possession of Controlled Drugs with Intent to Supply to Another", also known as drug trafficking and will now have to wait until next week to see a judge. Bellini is stationed in San Ignacio and is a former GSU officer. According to police information, the Commander of Operations Marco Vidal led the bust. The MIT operations team was also involved, making their second major bust in as many days.
