Another man was shot earlier that same day but survived. This shooting wasn't due to gang violence though; instead, the shooter was a police officer.

26-year-old Ryan Foster attempted to escape from police custody when the officer who was guarding him opened fire. In a twist of events, though, that cop is being detained by his fellow officers.

Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero explained how it went down.

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head NCIB
"On Saturday the 20th day of March 2021, Ryan Foster was detained by police pending investigation of theft at the Raccoon Street police station. He was taken outside to wash his hands as per normal procedure at which point he attempted to escape. He ran off and was followed by a police officer who fired one single shot to his direction causing an injury to his neck. He was taken to the KHMH where he is listed in a stable condition. Thereafter he was released into police custody. An investigation is being carried out and the police officer is detained pending charges."

"He was not handcuffed, he went to wash his hands and he took that opportunity to try and escape."

Reporter:
"So only one officer was there guarding him?"

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero
"One officer, correct."

Reporter:
"Is there a reason why that officer is being detained?"

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero
"He gave us a version of the events and we saw a contrary to that after the investigation."

"He gave his version and then the investigation showed other things that were not adding and that is the reason he's detained."

Reporter:
"Was he negligent in his duties?"

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Again the end of the investigation is showing that the use of force was excessive."

The officer was later charged with wounding - according to our sources.
