As we told you earlier, tomorrow will make it one year since Belize recorded its first case of COVID-19. Tonight, one year later, we've recorded 12,407 cases and 316 deaths nationwide.

But numbers recently remain on a downward trend and tonight we can report that only 2 COVID-19 patients remain hospitalized with none of them in the ICU.

We can also report that Belize's current active cases stand at only 52. Here's a thorough breakdown from Ministry of Health and Wellness information officer Claudette-Dakers Noralez

And at just 52 active cases Belize's numbers are quite encouraging, especially considering the fact that as of Friday 15,006 Belizeans or 4 out of every 100 residents had received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Also as of Friday, we were tied with Mexico in terms of doses administered given that 3.9% of our population has been vaccinated.

In that, we trail the leading CARICOM COUNTRIES of Antigua and Barbuda and Barbados, which are at 29%, and 21%, respectively. But Belize vaccination rate does lead neighboring Central American countries of Guatemala and Honduras who are tied with a mere 0.4% of their population having gotten the jab.
