And while those two will never agree on that narrative, what they did agree on was the ineluctable conclusion that lawmen are part of the business of landing narco-planes in Belize. Here's that exchange:
Jules Vasquez "Drug planes could not land in Belize without the participation of police officers and these people are recruited because they provide vital intelligence or disinformation to law enforcement and also they create certain clearance for certain things to move through whether it be aviation fuel or to block off a road. Are your police officers being instrumentalized in the international narcotics trade?"
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police "I'm not going to accept the fact that plane cannot land without law enforcement involvement, I have no evidence to suggest that."
Jules Vasquez "But we've seen it time and time again."
Chester Williams "We do have instances where we have evidence where law enforcement personnel are involved."
Jules Vasquez "Is it something that makes you lose sleep at night knowing that you have to compartmentalize or silo off certain information because you know it will be contaminated by these officers who are compromised?"
Chester Williams "The fact is, when it comes to the sharing of sensitive information like a plane landing, we have intelligence that a plane is coming, I don't share that every and anybody but yes, when we have police officers involved, it makes it difficult for us and we always say to them, the fact that you are working with these cartels making a little bit of money, you put the lives of your brothers and sisters at risk because at the end of the day, when the cartels know how the police is moving, it puts them at an advantage over us and we don't want to have to walk into a situation where our men and women are ambushed because of the corrupt behaviour of one or two of our police officers."
