Earlier this week we told you how an off duty police officer had shot a civilian passenger in a private vehicle.

The constable felt like the vehicle was trying to attack him - but really it was only a family in a private car. And a 20 year old innocent female was injured.

Still, the officer wasn't charged for discharging a firearm in public. That's because no court action was requested.

But, if a regular person had shot someone else - we can't imagine the same would apply. We asked the compol about it:

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"A detective constable Garcia last Saturday where he fired in some fit of incomprehension open fire on a civilian's vehicle with a father, a mother and a daughter in it injuring the daughter. He could have killed that girl sir and no charge, he wasn't even detained. You ordered that he be released that night. What are you encouraging, sir?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Jules, you always come with some cynical story or whatever. You always want to make it seem as if I am not doing what should be done. Many can say that the police had been very lenient to you and makes you different from the ordinary man."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Sir, I didn't fire on a civilian, sir. You are full of false analogies."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Let me finish what I am saying. We work based on information. I believe that Mr. Romero did in fact address that matter on Monday. I had said then that I was not going to address the matter because Romero have more intimate knowledge as to how the investigation was going, so I don't understand how you come to me."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Is it not you who..."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Hold on, let me answer, you are asking the questions and I am answering you. Give me a chance. Now, if it is that the people who were in this vehicle have said to the police, the investigators, not to me, that they do not wish to proceed with the matter, then what do you expect me to do? I had already given instructions to CIB to have charge the policeman for wounding, because the injuries were classified as wounding. When I gave that instruction I was told that the people gave a statement that they do not wish any court action, so at the end of the day instead of having yourself mislead by people with their own personal agenda, I would suggest that you get the facts straight and come with substance and not nonsense. Thank you very much."

After that HUFF, the COMPOL came back and finished the interview but on other subjects.
