And while that is a case in Belmopan - as we said the outlaws have been preying on Benque Viejo and terrorising residents in that western town.

Car thefts have become frequent, with brazen bandits eager to steal vehicles and then rush them over to Melchor through the back.

A big part of this is the de-facto contraband free zone that has been state sanctioned through the unfettered export of cattle through the back.

Well now it's becoming a big problem for Benquenos and police updated on the most recent jacking on Friday night:

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
"In deed and the last one being sometime on Friday at eleven a.m. Police were called sometime to border road where they learnt from the Pacheco family that the family was held up by two men who were both armed, a dark complexion and a Hispanic male, they were held at gun point where the house was ransacked. Thereafter, a vehicle, a dark grey Toyota Hilux which was parked in the driveway was taken by those persons. We believe that that vehicle ended up in Guatemala. Where, after conversing with the family, we learnt that their family members in Guatemala were called who confronted those persons who were involved in the vehicle theft. As a result, they were able to secure the vehicle from those persons. The vehicle was later brought back and handed over to the owner by their own means."

Reporter
"Sir, so that confrontation happened across the border by family members across the border."

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Yes."

And to address concerns over the Benque Border carjackings the COMPOL took some time to meet with residents this morning at the town's Cancha Marshalleck stadium.

According to the police press office the Williams told residents quote: "I will not leave here without placing new, durable strategies & directives to immediately address the Benque residents' concerns & collaborating efforts".
