And while that is a resource and security threat that Guatemalans impose on Belize - there is another major one, which we both share - and that's narco planes.
Almost every night, those planes come out of South America and target this region - landing in either Honduras, Belize, Guatemala or Southern Mexico.
The drugs are intended for North America - but this region is the halfway point. Briceno said that Guatemala has an aggressive campaign to track them - and they want to share resources with Belize:
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize
"Guatemala has been investing heavily in trying to find ways how they can control the amount of drug planes that go through their airspace, so they have special radars, helicopters, planes - so they can track them and see where exactly they will be landing based on the tracking, on the flight that they have and so they said they would send out the Kaibiles ahead in 3 different areas and once they come into their airspace they follow them, so it makes it more difficult for them to be able to land. He is prepared to share that data with us, so we've agreed that our foreign minister along with our minister of police Minister Musa will be meeting with them shortly to be able to see what kind of protocols could be put in place."
