And while gangs may be the outlaws of the city - in the north - the outlaws are contrabandists - and a major one was caught this weekend.

A joint law enforcement team of officers from the Mobile Interdiction Team and the Customs Department made a contraband bust on Saturday in perpetual smugglers hotspot, San Victor Village, Corozal.

At around 11:18 p.m., Members of the Mobile Interdiction Team and a customs officer conducted a contraband raid at the home of 37-year-old Aldo Cobb. They searched his entire house, and it was not until they searched one of the bedrooms in the house, that they found a secret, underground, storage area. Inside this hole, the lawmen discovered a large cache of contraband items.

Police Spokesperson Yearwood share a few details about the case this morning:

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Director of Communications, ComPol's Office

"They visited a residence in San Victor Village, the residence of Aldo Cobb, where they made a large catch: 16 cases of Tecate beers, the 24 bottles; 25 cases of Superior beers; Miami Mentol, something like 7 cartoons; 4 cases of Big Cola soft drinks - contraband items - a case of 2.5 liters; 2 cases of Sprite, the 6 bottles, 2.5 liters also; large Coca Cola, 2.5 liters, 4 bottles; Del Vie juice; black beans; 2 sacks of flower also. All these were discovered in what appears to be - I know people like to call it bunkers, but it is a room below a room. When they removed the bed, they found a manhole that was the entrance for a 7 depth, 5 feet wide - looks like a storeroom or a store. Of course, Mr. Cobb was detained, pending charges, and he was issued with a receipt that he signed acknowledging what was found at his house. Whether or not charges have been levied, or will be levied, we will know by the end of today."

In addition to the contraband items ASP Yearwood discussed during our interview, the law enforcement team also found 6 cartoons of Sunny Brand Cigarettes, 1 case of Volt Energy Drink, 20 bottles of Cana Real Rum, and 3 cans of Volta Energy Drink.

Cobb is expected to face charges for all these unaccustomed goods or pay a fine of three times the value.
