Police are taking a cautious approach to the investigation. They note that Jessica's injuries were classified as harm - which is fairly minor. So, at this time, police cannot say that the beating is related directly to the death:

"I know that on the 17th of July, Miss Itche went to the police and made a report, where it was observed that she had some scratches around the neck area and a busted lip. I can say that she was issued with a pair of medico forms. Her injuries were clarified as harm. We were made to understand that after that report, she went to stay with her mother. Sometime around 12:30 a.m., her mother heard her calling out. She was asleep, of course, in a hammock, and she is saying that when she went there to check on her, a few minutes after her call, she suddenly passed away. She was transported to the hospital, where police were called. And at this time, we're investigating that because we cannot say definitely what her cause of death is, and we are hoping that after a post mortem examination has been conducted, that we would have more answers."

"From what I understand, the 17th was Saturday, and the investigators are going on certain information that they got, and we are hoping we could get more light shed on this investigation. Because at the end of the day, this is less than a day or so later, and it could be related. That is why we have to investigate it. There is no other logical explanation as to what may have happened."

We'll keep following the investigation.
