And in other news, yesterday we told you that former Minister of Works, Rene Montero, is a wanted man. A warrant is out for his arrest for "willful abuse of their authority which caused injury to the public." That warrant is accompanied by a wanted poster, since police say they went to look for Montero but couldn't find him. A release from his attorney, Orson OJ Elrington, said that Montero is out of the country and was completely unaware of the warrant. He added that he believes the cops are simply a tool used to make a political scenery.

Well, we asked the ComPol about it today, and he isn't buying Montero's story.

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police "Yesterday we issued a warrant in the first instance for the arrest of Mr. Rene Montero Sr., he's currently being sought by the police, we have visited a number of places where we believe that he might be but we have not been able to locate him and so the warrant along with a wanted poster was issued yesterday on respect of his arrest."
Reporter "Sir his attorney is saying he is out of the country, he had not idea about the warrant, the police made no efforts to try to give him even a call to say we have this warrant."
Chester Williams "Well I don't think the police should call somebody when you have a warrant to arrest them, the police would normally go, locate you and bring you in. Now the attorney knows, he has seen the arrest warrant, then the attorney should do the right thing and bring his client in and make it much easier."
Jules Vasquez "Sir we have received reliable reports that Mr. Montero and another person went to the border on Saturday in a Toyota Hilux and were refused permission to cross the border, are you aware of this?"
Chester Williams "That's the information we received as well and that's the reason why I don't even believe he's out of the country but if his attorney is saying that he is then, his attorney can bring him into us."

According to Elrington, his client has every intention of returning to Belize in order to answer and vindicate himself against these baseless charges," End Quote.
