And from that fatal stabbing in Hattieville, we report now on another violent incident which also happened on the evening of Independence Day. 31-year-old Nelson Noe Zetina, a resident of Barrier Reef Drive in San Pedro Town, was shot by a man he identified to police.

The cops say that shortly before 5:30 p.m., he was on Coral Angel Street - in the downtown area socializing with a friend, and that's when a man known to him pulled out a firearm and shot him twice.

In a press briefing today, the Police spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, told the press that at this time, investigators don't know why Zetina was targeted:

"San Pedro Police went to the Polyclinic sometime around 5:28 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21st, based on information received of Noe Nelson Zetina, a 31-year-old of a Barrier Reef address, that he was suffering from a gunshot wound or gunshot wounds. Upon arrival, they managed to speak to the victim because was not unconscious, when investigators revealed that sometime around 5:20 p.m., Noe was at the Sacachispa football field at the corner of Angel Coral Street and Buccaneer Street, socializing with a friend when he was approached by a person known to him. That person took out a firearm and fired several shots toward him, causing his injuries. We have since detained that person along with a licensed firearm, and our investigators are trying to gather statements and do their best to see when and what charges will be levied against that person."

This evening Police formally arrested and charged Jairo Fernando Sandoval, a 20-year-old, Belizean of San Pedro Town for the crimes of Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm, Use of Deadly means of Harm and Aggravated Assault.
