So, as you heard in the interview, Griceldi Cano's mother does not believe that she intentionally jumped out of the moving vehicle, as the driver claims.
When the media asked about this incident in today's press briefing, the police spokesperson also indicated that investigators want to know all the facts before they accept or reject his account of her demise:
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Director of Communications, ComPol's Office
"Police received information sometime around 9:26 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21st, during curfew hours that there was an accident between miles 73 and 74 on the Philip Goldson Highway. If you know this area, it's somewhere around Santa Clara Village, Corozal District. Upon arrival on the scene, they saw a red Dodge pickup, and about 10 feet off the highway, they saw the motionless body of Constancia Cano, 33 years old, whose address is off Santa Clara Village. The initial investigation revealed that Fabio Cano, 54 years, a cane farmer of Concepcion Village, Corozal District, was driving his red Dodge pickup truck, and he alleged that Constancia opened the door, and alighted the vehicle while it was still in motion. Investigators have been on that scene. They are gathering statements, and we'll leave it like that for now because there were only 2 people traveling in that vehicle at that time, and one cannot answer for herself. So, we will allow the investigators time to gather evidence and see what will take place at the end of their investigation."
The driver was initially detained, and police continue to investigate.
