Press reports out of Guatemala say that law enforcement personnel in that country made a seizure of 2 million contraband cigarettes yesterday.
A joint law enforcement team featuring members of that country's military and national police intercepted a truck that was loaded with all those illegal smokes. The bust was made in an area known as the Sabanetas Crossing, located in Dolores, Peten, Guatemala.
The Guatemalan authorities have not reported arrests of anyone in connection with this bust - but we know that, historically, Chinese cigarettes in high volumes are smuggled out of the Benque Viejo Free Zone into Guatemala.
2 weeks ago, reports reached 7News that the Guatemalan authorities intercepted illegal cigarettes in Melchor that allegedly came from that same Free Zone.
