And the ComPol also spoke about the recent rolling rally that the Mennonites attempted to have in Belize City - attempted because it was thwarted by the police at numerous checkpoints on the different highways. The Commissioner said their rally went against COVID protocols, but the Mennonites are claiming they were profiled. So the ComPol gave them what he called some free legal advice:

Chester Williams, Commissioner Of Police

"If they come yes we will take the complaints, but at the end of the day as far as we are concerned, they were on their way to partake in an illegal activity. We saw the flyers that were issued the day prior. They had flags on their vehicles speaking about free Belize and these sorts of things carrying placards which shows that they were going to engage in an illegal activity and the police to ensure that the provisions of the covid19 protocols remains intact or adhere to prevented them from reaching Belize City where they would have had mass gatherings putting the lives of people in the city at risk. We have a responsibility as police officers to do our job and I believe that on that day in question what we did was well within the scope of the law and if it were to occur again, we would do the same."
