Last Friday, we told you how Darrell "Tutsi" Usher, the ex-cop who's also the son of PUP Minister of State Gilroy Usher Sr., had to spend the weekend on remand at the Belize Central Prison.
His bail application went before Justice Herbert Lord last week, but it couldn't be concluded. That's because the DPP's Office asked for more time because they received information suggesting that he has pending charges for attempted murder.
Now, if any such charges existed for such a well-known personality like "Tutsi", the press would have certainly known of them. So, the immediate suspicion was that, perhaps, the DPP's Office might have been confusing him with another defendant with the same first and last name.
When the matter went back before Justice Lord today, Senior Crown Counsel Sheiniza Smith informed the court that as far as their background check indicates, this specific defendant had no other pending charges. So, with no reason to object from the prosecution, the judge granted him bail.
His attorney spoke with court reporters after the hearing, and here's what he had to say on the positive outcome:

Richard "Dickie" Bradley - Attorney for Darrell "Tutsi" Usher
"Justice Herbert Lord granted bail in the sum of $10,000 and one surety or 2 sureties of $5,000 each for Mr. Darrell Usher, other conditions in the usual matters that he is to report to the police station, he is to attend the next adjourned date which is the 28th December and all subsequent adjournments until the case is concluded and he is not to interfere with any prosecution witnesses."
Reporter
"Were there objections today given what transpired on Friday?"
Richard "Dickie" Bradley
"If there is nothing against him, there would be no grounds for objection. The crown counsel was kind enough to inform the court that the check of the records showed that in fact the information was not accurate, that Mr. Darrell Usher had some serious indictable matters which was unknown to everybody. God willing, he should be out before the day is out."
As we told you, Darrell "Tutsi" Usher is currently facing the offenses of keeping an unlicensed firearm and keeping unlicensed ammunition. The cops say that they caught him with a gun that could be the murder weapon that was used to shoot and kill 25-year-old Jovanni Augustine. Police have already arrested and charged Kareem Beeks in connection to Augustine's murder.
