And while that victim may have been murdered, 30-year-old Darnell Suazo was killed in a traffic incident. Suazo, who was also known as Melo, was a well-known football player in Dangriga and an employee at Bowen & Bowen always making deliveries around town.
But on Saturday it seems the car he was travelling in lost control, and he was flung from the vehicle.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, the communications officer, gave us the preliminary details.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, BPD

"On the twenty-third of October, Independence police visited a scene between Placencia and Stann Creek, well in the Stann Creek District where they found a car, silver in color, overturned. Extensively damaged, a little distance from that vehicle, on the shoulder of the road, they saw the body of Suazo, Darnell Suazo, thirty-years-old. Investigations revealed so far that Suazo was traveling on that highway towards Dangriga Town where he lost control of the vehicle, slammed into a drain and overturned. Unfortunately, he did not survive the accident because he suffered severe head and body injuries."
And Yearwood said that another man, Carlos Reyes was also travelling inside the vehicle. But while the police say that Suazo was the driver, his common-law wife believes differently. she spoke to us via phone.

"What I can tell you is, what we heard they were going towards Placencia area and the driver of the vehicle lost control. The driver of the vehicle is not the deceased, because the deceased and I were communicating all along from early in the evening up to like minutes to 6 thereabout. So he can't text an drive and he doesn't even know about driving a vehicle, he is a motorcycle person. They said that the vehicle flipped and he was flung from out of the vehicle. I was still in disbelief, because we were communicating all along, so I didn't think much of it. I said maybe he had sustained injuries, but not to say that he would have died on the spot. until when I got the news. I was call and told they were in an accident. Then like 5 minutes later I got another call saying that he was dead. He was a family man; he likes to play around. He was very motivated when it comes to his family, his friends, he doesn't go out much, but all I can say he had a great personality for people. He doesn't intermingle a lot with friends. His friends are his co-workers and people who he grew up with. He mostly hangs out with his family members, his cousins and all of that. He is a very jovial person."
Suazo leaves behind three sons and a step son - ages 9, 7, and 5 years old, and 2 months old.
