He's represented Belize as a footballer in over two dozen international matches, and he's known as one of the most formidable defenders of his generation - but today Ian Gaynair is the one who had to defend himself after he was caught driving a car that was ram-jam full of contraband Mexican Beers.

At 7:00 am, police stopped a low riding Toyota Camry that looked like it was carrying a heavy load. The stop was made between San Antonio and Santa Cruz Villages in the Corozal District. Inside thee police found the driver, 36 year old Ian Gaynair and more than a thousand cans of illegal Mexican beer.

There were 42 cases of Corona Beers totaling 1008 cans, 6 Cases of Superior Beers, totaling 144 cans and two cases of Barrellito Beers, plus a single 6 pack, totaling another 54 cans. That's over 1,100 beers, and police took him straight to the Customs Department. This evening we ere told that he has agreed to a settlement and been released - which is fairly standard for such busts. Typically, these settlements are 3 times the value of the contraband goods, or 20 thousand dollars, whichever sum is greater.

And while that's quite substantial, Gaynair seemed unfazed, when he nonchalantly posted this evening, "So, I can't have my party again?".
