Traffic Wardens And The Power of Arrest

The power of arrest - it only rests in the hands of police and special constables, but now it's also being extended to traffic wardens at the Ministry of Transport. That means, they can write you a ticket and arrest you for a traffic offense! It's a heavy responsibility, and today at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan, a number of them were sworn in as special constables. And they were cautioned about not abusing their new powers of arrest:

There are 40 Department of Transport Traffic Wardens and abut three or four times that in the cities and towns.
