And keeping it on crime, a coast guard officer is currently wanted by police for allegedly stabbing his 18-year-old step daughter in Trial Farm on Tuesday. While the victim, Daxia Martinez, was admitted to the hospital, the assailant, 34-year-old Alberto Espinoza has been on the run since then. But ASP Yearwood said that he's sure police will find him.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"She's saying that on Wednesday, sometime after 6 in the evening, she got into an altercation with her step father, Alberto Espinoza, 34 year old Belizean Coast Guard. We know that we have issued a warrant for him, he's wanted for wounding. We have made contacts with his superior officers and we are asking the general public in trying to locate Mr Espinoza. We know that we have other reports in connection with this same Alberto Espinoza and by all means we will continue to look for him until either he comes and hands in himself or we will find him, where charges will be levied against him. I know that this young lady's injury was classified as wounding, I know that investigators are investigating two other incidents believed to be committed by him before this recent one on Wednesday and I know that they're looking for him for some other traffic infractions."
"I wouldn't want to go into all the details but I know that she is saying that he attacked her after just having words, I don't know the contents of their conversation was, and he cut her in her face and some other part of the body."
We asked the Belize Coast Guard's Admiral, Elton Bennett, for a comment today and he told us that Espinoza is, quote, "...currently absent from duties. He will be dealt with for his absence. Furthermore a disciplinary case will be instituted based on the allegations for which he is currently being sought." End quote.
