He was accused of a shocking case of child abuse - and tonight a 54 year old Belize City man has been found guilty a the rape of a 3 year old boy.
Alfonso Perez was accused in 2019 when the boy's 9 year old sister told her mother that she saw Perez forcing the child to perform oral sex on him on a rooftop at his Belize City address.
It went to trial without jury in the Supreme Court before Justice Ricardo Sandcroft where Perez - who is known as "Rebel" - told the court that he did no such thing. He claims that he was on the roof cooling off in his underwear when some children ran to him and tried to rob him.
But the boy's sister, now 12, took the stand and said she was hanging out clothes when she saw the older man force her brother to perform the act - and she screamed at him to stop, and then grabbed her brother. She says that - in an attempt to stop her from reporting it - Perez tried to grab her foot as she whisked her little brother away.
The judge found her evidence credible and didn't believe Perez - who claimed he had many girlfriends, and had raised 3 sons, and that he wouldn't do such a thing.
At 1:30 this afternoon, Sandcroft delivered his judgement against Perez who was unrepresented.
Justice Sandcroft has reserved sentencing for July 29, 2022.
