Yesterday, we told you about the death of 25-year-old Eden Itza, who had accepted a ride from two men traveling in a pickup truck to his home village of San Narciso. Itza climbed into the pan of the truck without realizing the driver was intoxicated and when they arrived in San Jose Village, the driver lost control of the vehicle while overtaking and crashed into a culvert. Itza was flung out of the pan and crashed into a coconut tree, where he died shortly after.
Today, police arrested the driver, 40-year-old German Gutierrez and charged him with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, drove motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or drinks, drove motor vehicle without due care and attention, and failure to report an accident.
