And while that 58 year old man was sentenced to 84 years in jail for having sex with a 12 year old minor, another convicted Belize City man, 54-year old Alfonso Perez, convicted of one count of rape of a child, will serve 20 years for making a 3-year-old boy perform oral sex on him.
Alfonso Perez, known as "Rebel" was convicted in July and sentenced today.
Justice Sandcroft told Perez that because he is a first time offender for a sex crime, and that he had a immaculate record prior to this conviction, he deducted 2 years, leaving him with 18 years.
But the judge also noted the tender age of the victim, a child only 3 at the time while he was 51. The judge ruled that Perez is not eligible for parole until he serves 15 years.
Today no character witnesses came to court to testify on behalf of Perez who maintains his innocence. He told the court now he is now living among men who have done hard crime and the real and are true rapists.
Justice Sandcroft told Perez that he was given a fair trial and time to get representation which he chose not to do. Before leaving court, he asked the judge how he can appeal his case.
