Port Loyola rep Gilroy Usher is adding his voice to the chorus of creoles demanding representation on the People's Constitutional Committee. He makes the point in an online Reporter article this evening saying quote: "If the Creole, the second largest population in the country, and the ethnic group with major social challenges, is not given a seat with the Peoples Constitution Commission, others alone will decide what is best for the Creoles when the committee makes its recommendation to Cabinet for the new Constitution for Belize." end quote.

The article goes on to refer to the often controversial Amnesty program driven by this government's immigration department claiming that, quote: "Whenever a number of Creoles try to stimulate serious discussion about the amnesty program that would reduce opportunities even more for their marginalized people, advocates for the program accuse them of playing the race card." Usher feels that these legitimate concerns should be allowed to be ventilated.

Finally, Usher then refers obliquely to "persons in authority" - presumably his colleagues in government, saying quote: "a number of persons in authority dismiss the legitimate concerns of Creoles in Belize as unimportant or deal with such concerns at snail's pace in the hope that the affected Creoles will abandon their undertakings." End quote.

As we've reported the Kriol council continues to make formal requests for inclusion to the Prime Minister as well as to The Minister responsible for the Commission Henry Charles Usher and the Director of Good Governance Cesar Ross.
