On Sunday night a wave of disbelief rippled across Belize - when news went out that 38 year old Vivian Belisle Ramnarace had died suddenly. She reportedly died from a blood clot which blocked circulation to one of her vital organs. Disbelief because this was Jon Ramnarace's wife, who survived a spray of bullets from a shooter who ran into her house after killing her husband and his brother David outside.
She survived - while shielding her daughter from the gunman's bullet. And then, on Sunday night, she died, most unexpectedly from a post surgical complication.
Today a spokesperson designated by the Belisle family spoke to PLUS TV's Louis Wade in Belmopan. He said it started with a pain in her leg:

"What we can say is that she did suffer several shots to the neck area as well as to her abdomen and so they had to do surgery to basically repair her intestines and what have you to ensure that she had a fighting chance to survive."
"The interesting thing Louis, is that throughout this entire ordeal, Vivian never lost her faculties, Vivian was very on top of things. Even the very night of the incident when she suffered all the shots and everything she was doing everything she could to protect her child in addition to that she said, and she told her mom, that she felt like passing out at one moment before help got there but she thought about her child and she fought, she fought to the point where she was able to get up so she really fought this thing through."
"Sunday afternoon she began complaining of a numbness in her leg and we noticed it swelling and in contacting a doctor friend, um, advised the family to take her to the hospital for treatment and we made it to the hospital and the family made it to the hospital with her but right at the emergency room she collapsed and immediately the doctors and nurses ran into action and you know before the family knew it they had to signing forms for intubation because she was actually, couldn't breathe on her own and when they checked her oxygen level had fallen very low so they needed to offer assistance and so we did what they needed to do and they were able to bring her back to get a pulse and everything but her, she suffered a second attack, a heart attack and guess that was the one that, regardless of how hard they tried and they really did try."
"The family has stepped up where the child is concerned and the child has been the major concern for many people who have been pouring out their support and especially with Vivian's passing have been speaking about the child left behind and losing both her parents at such a tender age, But the family will support her and giver her all the love, the encouragement and will be there to support her for all the days of her life as we can."
"To date there is a lot of stories and speculation going around, but nothing concrete as coming forward as a motive. It's troubling for us, because even Vivian herself, she remained conscious this whole while and in all the discussions even Vivian could not come up or put her finger on anything to say that this could have been the motive behind this. So the entire family is at a loss and Vivian died not knowing what motive there was and so that's been a concern for us as well."
"Everybody in this situation wants justice and we are cautiously optimistic that we will get justice from a physical human standpoint, because we know that there are loophole in the system and sometimes people walk from these crimes, not because they ae not guilty, but because of technicalities."
