

And while that appears to be some interpersonal dispute, it isn't the only violence that the peninsula has seen recently. On Friday, we told you that an American family was vacationing at Sirenian Bay on the peninsula when their beach house was invaded by 4 armed assailants. The burglars didn't get away with much, but they left the family in a state of shock, prompting them to scramble back to the US that same day.
It's a bit of a black eye for the tourism industry - the second one in less than six months, including J'Bria Bowens, who was killed in San Pedro.
But the Minister of Home Affairs told us today that while it is an unfortunate incident, he classifies it as an outlier event, tourists can be assured of their safety when visiting Belize.

"That particular incident, we are still obviously looking for the suspects, thankfully no one was hurt in that incident, I believe only a cellphone was stolen if I'm not mistaken, but definitely those types of things do have an impact, I do not think it will have an overall impact on tourism, tourists by and large are safe, extremely safe when they come to Belize and so I do not feel that it will have that effect."
