But it's not only tourists who should be assured of their safety - according to Musa, his ministry's budget is seeing an increase because the government plans to put a greater emphasis on citizen security. That extra funding will allow for another new police intake, while a portion of it will also be allotted to community policing.

And while that may work for preventing future crimes, what about convicting current criminals? Musa said they're working on that as well.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs

"One of the priority areas of our administration this year is citizen security, I think Cabinet has realized that there is a lot of potential in the multi sectoral approach that we initiated over a year ago. That particular budget is I'm not mistaken will be increased by some 2 million dollars, initially it was 2.9 million dollars and that will be going up. We also have 250 additional police officers that we will be recruiting subsequent to the passing out of the current recruit squad, 96, that is at the police training academy, so there is an additional budget for 250 more police officers to enroll this year. Additionally, we are looking at the National Forensic Science Service, we recognize the important of having a good lab for doing testing whether it's ballistics, whether it's DNA, and so you can look forward to some very meaningful and impactful changes coming at the National Forensic Science Service as we continue to roll out our platform of innovation and technology using the tools that are accessible to us to help fighting crime."

Reporter:
"When it comes to expenditure sir, more emphasis, a whole lot more is being placed on community policing services and crime prevention compared to investigative work."

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"There is also the enhancing of our investigation and prosecutorial services within the police department, that emphasis is always there, what we're trying to do now is to tap into the other areas because while we continue to enhance and develop those particular sectors, we do recognize that like I said, innovation and technology, utilizing the NFSS services to see how it is we can solve more and more crimes using DNA testing."

"And so yes we will continue to invest in our prosecution, continue to invest in our investigative services within the police department but we are also branching out because we recognize where other tools can be utilized in our crime prevention strategy."
