Tonight, Jasmine Hartin is back in the news after what looks like a failed attempt to abscond - without paying her record fine.

Reports started coming into 7News around 5:00 pm saying that Hartin was at the Santa Elena border in the north trying to cross into Mexico using what we are told is a temporary Canadian travel document. She was with her PR agent Louisa Chiarmonte.

But, she was stopped by Immigration authorities who questioned if she had indeed paid the court-ordered $75,000 fine - which her PR team claimed this weekend she had paid in full to the court. 7 News was able to confirm with the General Registry who then confirmed with the treasury that no payment has been received.

And, because of that, Belize's courts have yet to return Hartin's passport and that's why she reportedly got a temporary Canadian travel document.

But, her gambit at skipping town didn't work - and tonight, once again, Jasmin Hartin is in police custody. She was detained by police at the northern border and taken into custody. It's unclear if any charges will follow or what comes next - but, until she proves that she actually did pay her fine, Hartin likely isn't going anywhere.

We'll keep following this story and keep you up to date with developments.
