And keeping it in Corozal, last night we told you about the murder of 36-year-old Kurtis Usher and the miraculous survival of his 3-year-old son and partner.
But tonight the news in Libertad is that of another family targeted by what looks like another narco attack. This time 32-year-old Wilbert Henry and his partner had to grab their children and hit the ground to avoid the barrage of.223 rounds being fired into their home.
But they were fortunate, realizing once the gunman had gone that none of them were hurt. They fled their home to wait for the cops at a relative's house, leaving behind a bullet riddled house and car. This morning CTV3 spoke to Henry's partner Jacqueline Lambert. Here's what she told them:
Voice of: Jacqueline Lambert, Wife of the deceased
"I went to sleep like 10:35, 10:50 then a little while after I heard the gunshots and my bwoi just grabbed his daughter and dropped on the ground and I grabbed my son and told him go underneath the bed I just heard crazy gunshots, yeah."
Reporter:
"What went through your mind at that moment?"
Jacqueline Lambert, Wife of the deceased
"I wanted to know what was happening because I know we don't do anything you know because I want to know why they came to target my family."
Reporter:
"How many gunshots did you hear?"
Jacqueline Lambert, Wife of the deceased
"To be honest. I only heard like 6 because I just blacked out when I heard it and I didn't wan to hear anything else I just got on the ground and worried about my kids."
Reporter:
"Now, you are safe. I know and I understand that you're husband, your common law is detained by police, can you tell us why?"
Jacqueline Lambert, Wife of the deceased
"Well they told me that they detained him for questioning to, for the murder that happened."
Reporter:
"Here in Libertad?"
Jacqueline Lambert, Wife of the deceased
"Here in Libertad."
Reporter:
"Does he have any relationship with those people?"
Jacqueline Lambert, Wife of the deceased
"None at all, none, none at all. When they killed that guy my boy was right in the house,. He had the flu. I don't have any problems with anyone I barely know anyone in Libertad."
"I just want them to catch the person that did it because if they had hurt my kids, I mean what would have happened and why would they have my boy detained and we are the victims that is all I want for them to find the correct person."
Police recovered (30) expended.223 shells from the scene, while their Ford Escape (5) bullet holes to the right side of the vehicle, while their house had (14). No arrests have been made. Reports say police have stepped up their presence in the north as a consequence of this.
