And while Commissioner Williams said the Police Department was prepared to assist Iran Jones - reports we have gotten from the Special Protection Unit in the Lake Independence Area is that they are unable to assist the community as much as they would and that's because one of their unit-assigned motorcycles has disappeared.

Reliable reports say it was seen in Camalote village today - being operated by a civilian - who is known to be friendly with the unit commander, Aaron Gamboa's family.

We have a picture taken today that shows the government issued "B" license plates on the motorcycle with the civilian astride. We asked the Commissioner about it today, He said he was not aware:

Cherisse Halsall:
"We have seen pictures of a civilian riding a police motorcycle in Camalote Village, it's a cycle assigned to SPU for the Martin's area of Belize City, do you know why a civilian would be riding it in Camalote?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"No I don't know I would have to check with the Commander on that I am not aware of that no."

Cherisse Halsall:
"We are also aware that this civilian is being paid for some sort of special duties on behalf of the police department."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well if it is that the person is being paid for some type of police duties then he may be a special constable because we don't pay civilians to engage in police duties but special constables do from time to time."

Cherisse Halsall:
"Sir currently SPU officers are in Martin's on foot patrol, this is connected to that question because they have no cycle, that civilian is joy riding on it, what would you tell the officers who need the cycle?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"That is the furthest thing from the truth, I can tell you that in our new fleet of vehicles we got the other day, um, the Martin's area has been divided into four different areas, I did the division of Martin's and while in the past those sectors didn't have a vehicle, with the new fleet of vehicles we got I gave each of those sectors a brand new vehicle so sector 1, sector 2, sector 4, each have a brand new vehicle and there is another are of the SPU control which is the back a town area, I also gave a vehicle to back-a-town and SPU also does patrols in the Faber's Road area, I also gave them a brand new vehicle for that so SPU, Belize City has six brand new vehicles that they are using so anyone who wants to be saying that they don't have vehicles or whatever to patrol because it is elsewhere they are doing that out of mischief and it should not be countenanced."

7NEWS is reliably informed that Sector 3 of the Lake I area remains on foot patrol for the SPU due to not having any motorcycle.
