Tonight, the Commissioner of Police has confirmed what a grieving family knew from Saturday: that the body found in Biscayne over the weekend is indeed that of 30-year-old Iran Jones.

It's surely a relief to the family who identified their loved one earlier this week based on the clothing he'd been wearing at the time of his disappearance.

And Commissioner Williams also confirmed the family's claims that Jones was under police protection in connection with his role as a witness in a murder trial.

Here's what the Commissioner told me about the department's efforts to protect Jones that, according to the COMPOL, the 30-year-old ultimately sabotaged.

Cherisse Halsall:
"When we spoke to Mr. Romero on Monday he said that police had yet to confirm that the body found in Biscayne was his, is it confirmed now, and what can you tell us about the investigation into his death."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well, basically from the clothing that the person was wearing, it would make us believe that it is Iran Jones. I know it is an ongoing investigation, we have viewed several video footage and the ones we had saw him getting into a vehicle belonging to Aaron Flowers, that is the last he was seen, after he got into that vehicle belonging to Aaron Flowers he disappeared. So, police were in search of Aaron Flowers because we believe that he may be able to provide some information, in respect to the disseverance of Iran Jones."

Cherisse Halsall:
"Do you have any awareness of Iran Jones being threatened in court?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Um, I am not aware of him being threatened in court but I am aware of the fact that before he gave evidence in court he had made certain requests and the requests that he made were honoured but somehow he, after the court hearing he refused to carry through with what he had intended. It is sad to see that happened to him but I can tell you that as a department we did what we could have to avoid this from occurring."

Cherisse Halsall:
"The family says he was under some kind of police protection."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"That was the issue."

Police are still seeking Aaron Flowers for questioning in connection with Jones's disappearance.
