Two shootings in the south over the weekend have left two men hospitalized. The most recent one occurred in Dangriga on Saturday night, when 31-year-old Vincent Martinez was shot three times in his arm while riding his bicycle. He managed to ride all the way to his home in the New Site Area, before he finally collapsed. ACP Hilberto Romero told us more.

"On Saturday the 7th day of October 2023 around 2:48am Dangriga police responded to a shooting incident on George Price Drive where on arrival they found one Vincent Martinez with gunshot injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he was admitted in a stable condition. Information is that he was riding a bicycle when he was approached by a male person who fired several shots towards his direction. We have one person in custody in regards to this investigation."

"We have heard that this is a gang related shooting, that he is a member of a gang, riverside gang."

"Yes that is the information we're getting, this is some rivalry between two groups in that area and we have one person in custody at this time."

"Is this having anything to do, there was also the murder of a guy from that same gang in 2022, he was a Punta artist."

"We do not know if that is related to that shooting, that is all the information we have at this time, he was targeted but we don't have any connection if it's connected to any previous shootings."
