And this latest murder marks the second for Caye Caulker. Back in June, 45-year-old Floyd Samuels was shot to death inside his home.

For these island residents, two such incidents in six months is more than they're used to. And this latest one comes at the start of the tourism high season. Yesterday, we asked the chairlady about it.

"Of course it's very alarming and it makes us question what we can do to have greater impact or have an impact in decreasing these kinds of things but after we know exactly what has transpired then we could say where we could have an impact but for now it's just to wait for the police to do their work, do their investigation and then we could proceed from there. But sometimes I think the social issues we face on these islands, just like San Pedro, they tend to spill over into homes and affect the entire community."

Courtney Menzies:
"And this incident comes at the start of high season, so what are your concerns there?"

Seleny Villanueva Pott, Chairlady, Caye Caulker
"Of course these things, you question the outlook it will give that visitors may have, the reason, if it's a murder, if the destination will be safe, but I'm sure it will be, after the police have done their investigation, we will be able to see how this will be docked so it's not something I want to comment on until the police have done their investigation."
