There was a murder in Belize City this morning and it could be gang related. At 9:00 am, 24 year old Jordan Waight, also known as Jordan Burns was walking on Barbara Harris Street in the Gungulung area when he was targeted by a lone gunman.
Burns was walking in the direction of Chetumal Boulevard near the Gungulung Bridge - when a man rode up, and fired as many as four shots, killing him on the spot.
It's an area known to have two rival gangs, so there was a rapid police response. But, so far, investigators believe that it may be the product of an internal gang rivalry. One of Burns' family members told us that they believe he was killed by someone he calls a friend.
Burns is the neighbor to prominent gang figures in the area - so an urgent mediation session is expected.
Police do have a known suspect who they are seeking.
