Tonight's top stories could be very different, if it weren't for an early morning rescue at sea. It happened west of Caye Caulker at 4:00 am where a tourist was stranded in the open water and he was rescued by a local fisherman.

The tourist is seen in the video clambering into the fisherman's boat after he was located. But, this was no regular search party or lost at sea report. The visitor was staying in a privately owned condo unit at Blu Zen Resort, but had missed the 9:00 boat to the resort on the north end.

And he never showed up for the 10:00 pm boat either. It wasn't until 4:00 am when a resident at the back of the island saw him urgently flashing his cell phone light in the sea. They went and woke up a nearby fisherman - who cranked up his vessel and pulled off the rescue. As you can see here, the apparently inebriated tourist said he was swimming across the split to get to the north end, but swam in the wrong direction:

The fisherman crew deposited the guest at the Blue Zen Resort.

The owner of Blue Zen told us that the tourist is a guest of one of the owners of a condo unit. When he checked on him today at around noon, he was still sleeping it off.
