In a year between October 2019 and 2020, 45 year old, former first class clerk Juliet Belisle, swindled over 90 thousand dollars from government by making fake entries in the government's smart stream system. She pleaded guilty to theft and told the police that she was under financial strain at the time.
Tonight she is at home, lucky to have been given a suspended two year sentence by Justice Nigel Pilgrim.
Justice pilgrim ordered that she pay $5,000 to GOB in compensation costs.
Apart from that she only has to remain on good conduct for 3 years and she will avoid a two year prison sentence.
Belisle told the court, "I just want to give my sincere apologies for what I was arrested for and I want to ask you, as you make your judgment, if you could have leniency on me since I have no job right now so it will be tough on me to pay back a fine or whatever judgement you will hand down on me, but I am really and truly sorry."
